Liberals in Don Valley East Nominate Adil Shamji as 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Candidate

December 11, 2021 – Liberals in Don Valley East have nominated Adil Shamji, an Emergency Physician and Medical Director, as their Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for the next provincial election.

“As a healthcare professional, Adil has always fought for the members of his community, working to ensure everyone has access to the essential services they need and deserve,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “Adil will be a strong fighter at Queen’s Park, and I am very happy to have him on our team.”

Adil Shamji is a family and emergency physician who has devoted his career to providing clinical care in the settings and communities that need it most. Currently, he works in the emergency department at Michael Garron Hospital while also serving as Medical Director in ten of Toronto’s enhanced shelters for individuals experiencing homelessness. He has worked extensively in Indigenous communities across Northern Ontario, the Northwest Territories and the high Arctic.

Shamji has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science from the University of Western Ontario, completed his medical degree from the University of Toronto, and underwent additional training in both Family and Emergency Medicine in Toronto as well. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Oxford.

Adil is passionate about leveraging his experience in science and medicine to advocate for creative, pragmatic policy interventions that are grounded in evidence.

“As a physician, I have dedicated myself to improving the health and well-being of my patients wherever that help has been needed most,” said Shamji. “I will be proud to bring this same commitment to Queen’s Park so that we can lead Don Valley East and all of Ontario towards a brighter, more prosperous future.”
