Scarborough Southwest Arbitration Panel Decision
TORONTO, ON — The Ontario Liberal Party today issued the following statement on the outcome of the Scarborough Southwest nomination arbitration.
“We thank Chair David Zimmer and the members of the panel for the speed and rigour of their review. The arbitration committee operates independently under the Ontario Liberal Party Constitution and was established well in advance of this appeal — and Chair Zimmer’s distinguished record in Ontario public life is a reflection of the integrity this process deserved.
“From the outset, the party committed to an open and transparent nomination process — and that commitment did not waiver when a challenge was filed. It is precisely because we believe in due process that we made no public statements over the past week.
“We are making the panel’s full report publicly available today so that members, candidates, and Ontarians can review the findings for themselves.
“With this process now complete, our full attention turns to Scarborough Southwest. As this party has done time and again over the last 160 years, we will unite behind our candidate and work together to win this seat.
Thank you to Chair Zimmer and the committee for their thorough and timely work. Our party committed to an open and transparent process. Now that the arbitration committee dismissed this appeal, our focus is the voters of Scarborough Southwest. They have an important decision ahead, and we will work hard to earn their trust.
— John Fraser, Interim Leader, Ontario Liberal Party
I thank David Zimmer and the committee for their hard work. Political parties are an integral part of our democracy, and we have a responsibility to hold ourselves to the highest standards. Now is the time to come together to defeat Doug Ford in Scarborough Southwest.
— Kathryn McGarry, President, Ontario Liberal Party
