Neverending Neglect: Auditor General Reports Reveal Government Prioritizing Private Jets Instead of Focusing on What Matters

QUEEN’S PARK, ON. — Ontario Liberal Interim Leader John Fraser issued the following statement in response to the Auditor General’s latest reports.
“This Auditor General report paints a picture of a tired, directionless, and out-of-touch government that lacks oversight, refuses accountability, and is increasingly incapable of keeping Ontarians safe.
“It is entirely unacceptable that students with special education needs have been ignored by Doug Ford’s failed Conservative government for eight long years. Approximately 17% of Ontario’s students, more than 350,000 children across this province, receive special education programs or services. Today’s report makes it clearer than ever: they have been let down by Doug Ford.
“In Doug Ford’s Ontario, 87% of teachers lack support implementing individual education plans, which parents of children with special needs know is vital to their development. Under this government, individual education plans may as well not exist, because the funding simply is not there.
“More than one in ten educational assistant positions are unfilled every single day in Ontario due to burnout and physical injuries. With a growing funding gap for special education students, it is no mystery why 40% of teachers have had to exclude a child from their classrooms due to a lack of support.
“For families waiting over a year for professional assessments for their children, they are left with a choice between enduring delay and paying $5000 for a private assessment, creating a two-tier system.
“Doug Ford cannot protect anyone. This government has allowed a commercial truck licensing system so riddled with fraud, negligence, and oversight failures that it is putting lives at risk on Ontario’s roads. Private career colleges are falsifying training records, instructing students to sign off on hours they never completed, and operating without inspection — all while large commercial trucks, just 3% of vehicles on Ontario roads, account for 12% of all fatal collisions.
“Doug Ford is also failing to protect Ontarians’ personal data — with a majority of AI sites accessed by public servants flagged as dangerous, with only 3% of staff having completed AI training.
“Most concerning is the fact that Doug Ford’s tired and out of touch Conservative government has no plan to address any of these issues. This is a government flying by the seat of its pants, oblivious to the wants and needs of millions of people across Ontario.”
