Ontario Liberal Finance Critic: “Ford breaks promise to protect jobs: 41,000 manufacturing jobs disappear since his re-election”

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Liberal Finance & Trade Critic Stephanie Bowman released the following reaction to today’s Labour Force Survey from Statistics Canada:
Doug Ford called an early, unnecessary election last year to ‘protect’ jobs here in Ontario. Instead, 34,000 jobs have disappeared since February 2025 and in manufacturing, even more jobs are gone. Since his re-election, 41,000 manufacturing jobs have disappeared. His plan to protect jobs is not working.
But that is not the only broken promise. Back in 2018 Ford said he would create 300,000 manufacturing jobs. Net job losses in the manufacturing sector have now reached nine thousand. Ford’s broken promises continue to hurt workers and their families across Ontario.
