Doug Ford’s candidates have long record of opposing building homes

QUEEN’S PARK – Doug Ford’s Conservative candidates in Milton and Lambton—Kent—Middlesex have a long history of opposing new housing.

“Fresh off his refusal to accept his own task force’s recommendations, Doug Ford is now running two candidates who have repeatedly opposed building new and affordable housing. We need a government that says yes to housing, instead of more naysayers like Doug Ford and his NIMBY Tories.”

— Adil Shamji, Ontario Liberal Critic for Housing

In Milton, Conservative candidate Zeeshan Hamid wrote, “I would like to see the town transform itself into a community that people pay a premium to move to.” As housing prices skyrocket across the province and his unacceptable dream becomes a reality, this comment reveals how out of touch he is with the needs of everyday, hardworking Ontarians who deserve a home to call their own.

In Lambton—Kent—Middlesex, Conservative candidate Steven Pinsoneault regularly supports cuts to social housing while voting against affordable housing projects.

Pinsoneault voted against a 95-unit supportive-housing project, arguing the $9.7 million investment was “a ridiculous amount of money in my opinion to spend…I think this is going way over and above what we need to do. I can’t support it, it’s too much money.”

He also personally “brought forward a motion to remove $200,000 from the affordable housing base budget.”

“With candidates like these, it is clear Doug Ford has no intention of restoring the dream of homeownership. Bonnie Crombie and Ontario’s Liberals will.”

— Adil Shamji, Ontario Liberal Critic for Housing
