Liberals in Mushkegowuk—James Bay Nominate Matthew Pronovost as 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Candidate

April 6, 2022 – Liberals in Mushkegowuk—James Bay have nominated Matthew Pronovost, a French-language services advocate and teacher, as their Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for the next provincial election.

“Matthew has demonstrated his passion for education and his community throughout his career,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “He will be the strong voice Mushkegowuk—James Bay needs at Queen’s Park after years of missing representation.”

Pronovost spent his early years volunteering, coaching and officiating youth sports and working at the local plywood mill to pay for his post-secondary studies. During his studies at Laurentian University, he began working for the Federation of Francophone Youth (FESFO) where he facilitated seminars in schools across Northern Ontario. He continues to be a strong advocate for the preservation of French services and the expansion of French education in Ontario.

Since starting his education career in 2010, he has had the opportunity to work at every level from K-12 and has experience teaching in both French and English. Outside of his teaching career, Pronovost has continued to volunteer his time coaching a variety of sports to provide his students with opportunities to build teamwork, develop leadership and live healthier lifestyles. He currently resides in Moonbeam where he is a volunteer firefighter and teaches at a secondary school in Smooth Rock Falls.

“For over 20 years, Mushkegowuk—James Bay has not been able to elect a member of the provincial government,” said Pronovost. “We deserve a seat at the table, and I am committed to increasing the safety of the Trans-Canada Highway, cooperating with First Nations communities, protecting public education, supporting health care workers and repealing Bill 124. Let’s work together to bring positive change to the North.”
